Bloomsburg Baseball Drops Twinbill to Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, TN--The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday to Carson-Newman College, losing 7-6 in 10 innings in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap.

In game one, Bloomsburg jumped out to lead in the top of the first inning when Vinnie James (Bristol/Bristol) homered with two outs. The Huskies made it 3-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the second with the help of two errors by Carson-Newman. Kevin Plott (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) had an RBI on a ground out in the inning. After the home team cut the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, Bloomsburg scored single runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings to lead 6-2. In the fifth, Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) had an RBI single as Bloomsburg left the bases loaded, while in the eighth Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) tripled scoring Matt Allen (DuBoistown/South Williamsport) who had doubled. The Huskies run in the ninth when David Miller (Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl), who singled to open the inning, later scored on a wild-pitch.

In the bottom of the ninth, Bloomsburg had the Eagles down to the final out when Carson-Newman got a couple of bloop singles and walk followed by a grand slam home run to tie the game at 6-6. In the 10th, Carson-Newman got a double to lead off the inning and a game-winning single one out later to win the game.

In the second game, Bloomsburg scored first when Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewsitown) singled, stole second, and scored on Allen's RBI single for a 1-0 lead. The home team, though rallied with single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Bloomsburg's Grant Kernaghan (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) was the hard luck loser despite allowing just five hits, striking our four and not giving up a walk.

Bloomsburg falls to 4-5 with the losses and will play at Tusculum on Tuesday at 4 p.m.Huskies reurn to HuHu
